Butterfingers Barking slip in the field
29 July 2010
Barking 259-9 lost to
Ford 270-9 by 11 runs
A NIGHTMARE day in the field was Barking's downfall, as a series of dropped catches and misfields helped Ford post an imposing total.
Barking had restricted their opponents to 53-4 at Mayesbrook Park, but then let Ford off the hook and in the end their impressive batting display was in vain.
Batting first, Ford eventually got over their slow start when Haroon Qayum (66) stepped up to the crease.
He recorded an unbeaten half-century to set Ford's run-chase firmly on its way after Dharani Raj (8), Aslan Ahmed (0) and Hassan Ali (4) had failed to make an imprint on the scorecard.
Adeel Mirza continued the Ford focus with a stylish 62 as the visitors took advantage of yet more sloppy mistakes.
A Maman (26) and Umar Farooq (11) continued to pile up the runs as Ford eased to a huge total, but it could have been worse without the excellent contribution of Barking's Ehsan Afzal (4-28).
Despite obvious disappointment, Barking's reply started with gusto, as Pulkit Gupta (19) and Umer Mahmood (12) made solid contributions, before a majestic innings of 61 from J Mitchell.
However, regular dismissals thwarted Barking's bid for an unlikely victory, as Hassan Masood (3-30), Prish Roy (2-53) and Dharani Raj (2-35) put in good displays with the ball.
Imran Butt (63) was the other stand-out performer for Barking, as they came agonisingly close to a win.
BARKING travel to Hornchurch next week, as they look to leapfrog their opponents into the top four.
