Barking creative quarter hosts urban planning show

15 July 2010
TWO cutting edge artistic projects are inviting people to take a fresh look at their hometown and will introduce youngsters to the world of contemporary art.

Barking's Creative Quarter in Abbey Road will welcome artists Laura Oldfield Ford and Graham Hudson who will bring their imagination and creativity to inspire residents.

Laura, who is best known through her cult fanzine, Savage Messiah, will hold workshops with students from Barking Abbey and Warren schools in the 4,350 sq ft ground floor of The Malthouse Art Gallery.

Year 10 and 11 students will discover the puzzling and wonderful subject of psychogeography - studying and re-imagining the city and its effects on people - as part of The Artists Programme, funded through the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) with the council and arts charity, Space.

Laura will lead a large scale mapping project entitled Through The Planned Cities Fires Will Rage. Read more in this week's POST.
