Jordan shines as seconds beat Hornchurch
29 July 2010
Goresbrook II 228-8 beat
Hornchurch 164 by 64 runs
JORDAN CALVERLEY posted an unbeaten knock of 75, as a young Goresbrook second team cantered to an easy victory over their Hornchurch counterparts.
The 17-year-old Calverley was one of a host of teenagers in the 'Brook line-up, as the club continue to reap the benefits of their successful Colts programme.
Not-out opener Joe Curley (52) had boosted 'Brook to a commanding score after his captain had elected to bat.
It was his partnership with Calverley that effectively sealed the game for 'Brook though, as their run-chase gathered momentum.
Calverley spent 139 minutes at the crease, in a marathon session that decimated any Hornchurch hopes of victory.
It was left to Chris Burke (37) and Lee Ramduth (25) to make key contributions to the tail, as Hornchurch spinner Tom Wright (3-52) was unable to prevent an imposing total.
The first of Mitchell Din's three wickets came as he eventually dismissed Ben Jones for 31, before Jon Watkins attempted to salvage the game with a determined 48.
That was as good as it got for Hornchurch though. Keith Hurford (19) and Ian Roberts (11) were the only other stand-out contributors as 'Brook's bowlers made short shrift of the tail.
Fourth-place Goresbrook travel to May & Baker at the weekend, hoping to put some daylight between themselves and their fifth-placed opponents.
