Mixed weekend for May & Bakers

08 July 2010
MAY AND BAKER Bowls Club achieved mixed results in the East Ham and District League over the weekend.

On Saturday they entertained Phoenix bowls club, despite winning on one rink by 12 shots they lost the match by 22 shots, as the visitors pulled out all the stops in the other two rinks to run out comfortable winners.

On Sunday, Salamander Bowls club were the visitors for another league encounter. This proved to be a real cliff hanger with M&B winning on two of the three rinks.

Going into the last end M&B had a slender four-shot advantage, with Salamander picking up three shots on two rinks. It was left to the rink skipped by Tony Hatch to win the head to retain the advantage.

They did this by three shots to take the points by an overall four shots.

May & Baker pulled back from a five-shot deficit to record victory over Plashet Park, as they hosted the latest East Ham and District League match on Saturday.

A closely-fought game saw Plashet take the initiative, before M&B finished the stronger to win by nine shots.

Fast forward to a sweltering Sunday, and Liberty visited for a highly competitive mixed friendly game as M&B won by 15 shots.

The friendly bowls club is always looking for new bowlers and taster sessions are always available.
