THE LADIES of Dagenham 88 Runners produced another superb performance in the second leg of the East London Five Interclub Series on Wednesday.
Caroline Tuck led the team (above) home in second place at the 'ELVIS' event at Hainault Forest, in tandem with the Newman Hilly Five, with a time of 37 minutes and 33 seconds.
Backing Tuck up were Amanda Halesgrave with 39.20, improving Inga Hayden-Cooper with 39.53 and Jenny Akroyd returning 40.18
Home club Ilford took first, but 88s superbly pipped East London Runners, led by female race winner Karen Levison, by a single point.
The performance means there is a three-way tie at the top of the 'ELVIS' table between Ilford, East London and the 88s.
The men were hampered by the non-availability of Bill Adams and Gary Cardnell due to work commitments but managed fifth place to remain fourth in the 'ELVIS' rankings.
Nigel Swinburne was again the team leader with an improved performance from the first leg in a time of 31.38, after the main race had been won by Billericay Striders' Crispin Bloomfield in 26.43.
ON SUNDAY, Gary and Julie Cardnell, Inga Hayden-Cooper and Jacqueline Frewin took part in the latest West Ham Park 5km Summer Series.
Gary Cardnell ran his best time in over six years with 20.32 seconds, making him second veteran and sixth overall.
Hayden-Cooper ran in 22.52 for first veteran and 13th overall, while Frewin knocked 10 seconds off her previous best at 5km with a time of 28.08 to finish 36th overall and eighth vet.
Julie Cardnell recorded 35.45 in only her third-ever race and her first 5km.
ALSO in action at the weekend was Steve Ray, who in his first race since overcoming a calf injury, finished last in the Harlow 10-mile road race.
DAGENHAM 88 Runners meet every Tuesday and Thursday at the May & Baker Club at 7.15pm, with the First Steps programme operating on Sunday at 10.30am from the same venue.
